Can’t find the article now, but Yosemite was rated by ?Backpacker? as one of the easiest parks to get around without a car.
Between the Glacier Point and Tuolumne Meadows hikers buses, and the transportation into and out of the park that you mention, there are lots of options for backpackers and hikers.
Plus, bike rentals are available in Yosemite Valley – and in the summer is faster, and more convenient transportation than a car anyway – no traffic or parking issues.
That said, you might need more time in order to get the schedules to line up right for you, and you’ll definitely want to do your homework ahead of time.
Full disclosure: I work for the park concessioner, but these are MY opinions.

Okay, that’s just plain inspiring. I’m wanting to take a trip like that now…
Glad to hear it. It’s a great time of year to go.
